The Australian Orthotics and Prosthetics Association (AOPA) is the peak professional body representing Orthotists and Prosthetists in Australia. AOPA sets professional standards, supports continuing professional development, accredits education programs, and promotes high-quality patient care across the profession.
All clinicians at Ortho Advantage are fully qualified Orthotists and Prosthetists and are members of AOPA, ensuring adherence to national professional and ethical standards.
Orthotists and Prosthetists are allied health professionals who assess, design, manufacture, and provide custom orthoses (braces and supports) and prostheses (artificial limbs). Their work focuses on improving mobility, function, and quality of life for people with limb difference, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal injuries, and other mobility-related conditions. Clinicians work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside doctors, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists.
Study in Orthotics and Prosthetics combines clinical healthcare with engineering and biomechanics. It includes human anatomy and physiology, biomechanics and gait analysis, material science, clinical assessment, device design, fabrication techniques, and rehabilitation principles. Training also involves extensive supervised clinical placements, where students gain hands-on experience in patient assessment, device fitting, and ongoing management.
